Summary

A non Governmental Organization requires a licensed nutritionist to support the daily management and implementation of its public health campaign as well as provide technical expertise on the project and its related policies in its Abuja office.

Description

  • Support the organisation's strategic vision, including through strategic planning processes for its public health campaign.
  • Manage the public health campaign for the organization.
  • Build synergy between the organization and other public health partners in Nigeria and beyond.
  • Conduct scientific research to expand field-related knowledge such as the impacts of nutrients, excessive consumption of sodium and SSB’s etc.
  • Coordinate media activities which include among others, writing and distributing press releases, writing and syndication of articles and coordination of press events.
  • Secure media interviews on radio, television, and newspapers.
  • Clarifying information to the targeted audience and explaining the effects of nutrients on overall health conditions.
  • Identify and develop positive relationships with key stakeholders and partners.
  • Keep track of public health/nutrition-related policies (state, federal and international) to develop and provide summaries or fact sheets;
  • Make presentations on a variety of topics such as how nutrition affects overall performance in sports, schools etc, how nutrition affects public health etc.
  • Suggest positive alterations in nutrition to address the target audience's dietary needs.
  • Develop and implement an effective communications strategy based on our target audience.
  • Plan and execute Journalism training.
  • Serve as Liaison between the organization and regulatory agencies.
  • Supervise and participate in the digital media campaign.
  • Write Project reports and participate in project calls.
  • Work with the Director of Programmes to promote consistent reportage of the organization's activities in the media.
  • Participate in the organization's activities and events.
  • Assist the Executive Director with any administrative tasks, such as fundraising, preparing annual reports and any other assignment the Executive Director or your Line Supervisor gives.

Qualification

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Economics, Public Policy and Management, Public Health, any of the social sciences, or a related development field, required.
  • Master’s degree or Postgraduate Diploma preferred.  
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience implementing and monitoring programs that support civil society organizations to analyze public budgets, and to engage and advocate for greater transparency, accountability and participation in public budget processes
  • High familiarity with development issues at the local, state and federal government levels in Nigeria.
  • At least 2 years of experience providing and supporting capacity-building interventions, particularly with civil society organizations 
  • Experience with civil society development advocacy initiatives, including a keen understanding of accountability ecosystems for public resources and the roles that civil society can play in relation to these systems 
  • Previous experience in the grant management process.
  • Experience with Knowledge Management and Development Communications will be an added advantage.
  • Strategic thinker; strong analytical skills 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills: high-level ability to communicate effectively with partners, colleagues, consultants, and representatives of government and other multilateral organizations; strong network-building skills 
  • Ability to work well independently with minimal supervision while maintaining regular and frequent communications with IBP/SPARK colleagues geographically dispersed around the world 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to thrive in and contribute to a culture of collaboration and teamwork in a diverse work environment
  • Demonstrates a high level of organization; a strong ability to prioritize tasks to meet multiple deadlines
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office package required; proficiency with other specialist software applications, desirable
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility and a commitment to and passion for IBP’s mission
  • Highly flexible and adaptable to shifting environments and works well under pressure 
  • Motivated to learn and willing to contribute to learning initiatives 
  • Strong ability to work meaningfully with members of citizen-led campaigns and movements
  • Considerate, humble yet strategic in sustaining relationships with key stakeholders and role players.
